Thanks for joining me! Blogging what inspires me. I am honoured to be elected as a trustee in New Westminster. I spent 25 years in education as a special education assistant and I retired in 2016. I wanted to focus my energy and come at education from another angle.
In 2006 I was trained in Orton Gillingham and became a private thearputic tutor, and my focus was how we teach children to read. While working as a literacy support worker in high schools I discovered many students were arriving in grade 8 without the skills needed to do the academics. I saw students check out, drop out, and leave school without diplomas. GAPS, these are the children who fell though the gaps.
My blog will focus on what is good for students who are vulnerable and need extra support. My work as a trustee is to support student learning for all children in New Westminster, but I hope to keep a keen eye on the students at-risk to not complete school.
“The more that you read,
the more things you will know.
The more that you learn,
the more places you’ll go.”
